Welcome to the Berks County PAGenWeb site. This site is part of the USGenWeb Project. My name is Nancy Freehafer, and I am the County Coordinator.
I would like to remind everyone that this site is a "secondary" resource for genealogical information. The information posted here has been transcribed--sometimes more than once. Also, some of the records that have been transcribed are secondary sources. Information that you find here should be used to provide leads and not as proof or fact.
There are many transcriptions of early records on the site. Although you can search for the surnames you are researching, you might want to browse through the records because of the spelling variations that are so common in early genealogical records.
Pennsylvania Historical Record Access
Here is the link to the website about the grassroots effort to have Pennsylvania make its older state death certificates much more accessible and also available online similar to how they have started to do in other states: http://users.rcn.com/timarg/PaHR-Access.htm. We hope you will join in on this effort and if you would pass this information on to anyone you know who is into Pennsylvania genealogy and history including out of state residents. Every letter, phone call or email helps.

If you would like to transcribe Berks County records, please let me know. I am trying to get early tax records that were published in the Pennsylvania Archives posted to the site. There are also other items, such as biographies and old books that I'd like to get transcribed for the site. Generally, I'll take submissions in text format (Notepad), Microsoft Word or Word-compatible files, Microsoft Excel or Excel-compatible files. I'll list you as the submitter for any transcriptions that you provide.
Do you have information to contribute?
If you have information that you would like to share, such as vital records, census records, cemetery records, or anything else, please send me your submissions. For text submissions, I prefer either text format or Word format, but I can convert many other formats. For images, I prefer either GIF format or JPG format. If you aren't sure whether I will accept the submission, please drop me a note and ask.
In addition, if you know of any links that I should include on this site, please let me know.
